FAQ
What defines a high-quality beanie?
A high-quality beanie is defined by fibre quality, knitting method, and balance. Fine cashmere or mohair fibres should feel soft without irritation, retain warmth without heaviness, and maintain shape with wear.
Hand-knitted beanies allow for better tension control, resulting in improved comfort, elasticity, and longevity.
What is the difference between a cashmere beanie and a mohair beanie?
Cashmere beanies offer intimate softness and warmth close to the skin, making them ideal for everyday wear and colder days.
Mohair beanies bring a unique halo that adds texture and elegance. They provide warmth without density and are often chosen for their visual softness and refined appearance.
Where are Onika Knitwear accessories made?
All Onika Knitwear accessories are handmade in Salzburg using certified cashmere and mohair sourced from trusted Italian mills. Production is intentionally small-scale and slow.
How should I care for my mohair beanie?
Mohair requires minimal washing. Frequent airing, gentle hand washing when needed, and the use of a mild detergent without lanolin help preserve softness and elasticity. Always dry flat to maintain shape.

Is a cashmere beanie worth it?
The short answer is yes, but only if the quality of the fiber matches the craftsmanship.
Not all cashmere is created equal.
A high-quality cashmere beanie is a rare blend of functional performance and sustainable luxury that synthetic or low-grade wool cannot match.
We exclusively use Grade A cashmere, which refers to the longest and finest fibres (approx. 14–16 microns). Longer fibers mean your beanie is significantly softer, warmer, and less likely to pill than the "budget" cashmere, which often uses shorter, coarser Grade C fibres.
Onika Knitwear beanies are hand-knitted in our Salzburg atelier. This slow production ensures the tension of the knit is perfect, allowing the beanie to retain its silhouette year after year.
While the initial cost is higher, the longevity, comfort, and ethical traceability make our Grade A cashmere beanie a staple you will wear for a decade, not just a season.
